No punches were thrown at this years Bundrick's Revenge

The results are posted on the Audax Atlanta website. Congrats to all.
Someone said there was 16,000 feet of climbing on the ride which is about
double what most consider a very challenging century. The weather was great
- mainly overcast and not too hot. We had 19 starters and 17 finishers. I
considered this a great turnout.

A bit about the 2 DNF's. Mohammed was seeking a successful third attempt and
his legs were not quite up to the task. On a ride this hilly the control
cut offs can do you in and Mohammed could not make Brasstown in time. Moe
Schlabach was having rear wheel problems that he was finding to be scary on
the descents and he shortcutted and rode on in after successfully making the
Brasstown control. Then, Tom Cross kept us company for a lot of the day
essentially riding his own Assault on Brasstown Bald.

There were a lot a strong randonneurs on this ride and most finished looking
great. This group was riding for time. And if not for time then for the
challenge of doing something crazy like riding on a fixed gear like Kevin.

Tom Marchand and Max Perethian had to dig deep to complete this ride. (Maybe
Gator, too?) A big congrats to them for a successful completion.

There were a lot of friendly folks at the Brasstown Control. I had borrowed
an event tent that had a lot of Bike South identifiers on it and maybe that
made the group more approachable. Or maybe the folks had driven or
motorcycled behind us up the climb and felt that from that in depth
inspection that they wanted to know more. Or maybe it was because I had
grabbed the site with the best view. But anyway, we had a lot of folks
dropping by to talk.

There were two particular groups of motorcyclist that spent some time with
us. The first group was into the hardware. They were looking at the wheels
and the brakes. They were interested in the costs of the bikes and took
turns picking one up in amazement of it's light weight. The second group
consisted of two couples decked out in full leathers and dew rags. They
helped Tom and I take down the tent and then stayed around to help me load
the coolers etc. into the car. It was very cool!

For next year I plan to schedule this ride after the Labor Day weekend.
