A hearty congratulations to all who came out for the GA 600. There were 8 finishers and 6 DNF’s. (Since Gary Garter had to return so early for personal reasons I have excluded him from those stats.) |

Please see the ride results posted on the Audax site. There were 16 starters and 14 finishers with almost everyone having a good ride.
I was very sorry to hear from David B and Crystal that they had taken a wrong turn early and ran out of time prior to reaching a control. I would like to congratulate them for attempting the ride: overcoming their hesitations/concerns about the difficulty of the course (and for cycling back in).
I think that this was Jim Shanni's first 400km brevet - way to go Jim.
Kevin was out riding for training and Chris was picking him up halfway to be available for support or sagging. Thanks guys for volunteering.
Gary and Gator were back this year determined to finish and they did so in fine shape. If I had only had hot pizza waiting on Gary then he probably would have declared his day perfect. Wendy finished strong and attributed that to her ride diet of KFC. She is trying to get Gator hooked on the stuff, too.
Mary traveled down from Pennsylvania to join Jeff on his tandem for the ride. Not exactly a classic tandem course but they appeared to have company most of the day. There is something about riding with Jeff! Peter seemed to enjoy his day with them the couple of times we passed.
I squeezed in an out and back cycle from Clayton to Highlands. (The burrito joint up there makes the climb worthwhile?) As I was descending I passed Kevin, Julie, Andrew, George, David and Steve. They were an inspiring sight, climbing comfortably and quickly at the end of the first 200km of the ride and completing the 12,000ish feet of climbing to Highlands. A super strong bunch with a time to prove it. 9 hours to Highlands is really something.
Alan and Ian have been at this a long time and spent most of the day together just riding along - with I'm sure an uphill attack or two from Alan.
It was simply a great day to be out in North Georgia. Pretty good weather, cloudy where it needed to be with favorable winds and only a touch of rain. |
